Since the actor Daniel Craig announced, not again

Wanting to play the coveted and nerve-wracking role of 007, there is always speculation about the new cast of the British secret agent with double zero status.

In addition to Idris Elba, there were calls for Richard Madden and Tom Hiddleston.

Pierce Brosnan, who saved the world from evil four times as Bond between 1995 and 2002, has now revealed his preferred cast: He would like to see his Irish compatriot Cillian Murphy in the role.

"Cillian would do a great job as James Bond in His Majesty's Secret Service," Brosnan told the BBC news channel.

Murphy's name has been among the close favorites to succeed the role of 007 for years.

Brosnan was speaking at the annual Oscar Wilde Awards, which honor Irish creative talent in Los Angeles.

Murphy, who is considered an Oscar contender for his performance in the film “Oppenheimer,” was also present at the event.

According to the BBC, Murphy has not yet heard the rumor that he himself could possibly be seen on screen as a martini-sipping double-zero agent.

A few years ago, Brosnan had expressed himself very differently about the future of 007: It would be time to clear the way for a female double-zero agent, Brosnan told the "Hollywood Reporter" in 2019.

We have seen enough men in the role over the past 40 years.

“Get out of the way, boys, and put a woman up,” Brosnan said at the time.

"I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting."

In addition to numerous male actors, the British-Jamaican actress Lashana Lynch has also been considered a possible Craig successor.

In "No Time to Die" she actually took over the coveted status of 007 for a short time from Craig, who was seen for the last time as James Bond in the film.

In 2015, he claimed that he would "rather slit his wrists" than make another 007 film.

However, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli recently rejected the idea of a female Bond actress.

In an interview with the US trade journal "Variety," Broccoli said: "He can have any skin color, but he is male." The producer already said in an interview with SPIEGEL in April 2019 that she doesn't believe in rewriting originally male roles for women affirmed.

»I prefer it when women write original characters for women.«
