After serious allegations against clinicians at the Bodensee Medical Campus (MCB) in Friedrichshafen, the public prosecutor's office has initiated an investigation.

The allegations range from suspicion of negligent homicide to initial suspicion of billing fraud, as the police and public prosecutor's office announced.

An investigation is also being carried out on suspicion of medical malpractice involving bodily harm and failure to provide assistance.

Five doctors are accused.

Evidence was seized at the clinic on Thursday.

This is primarily electronic data.

An investigative group called “Cura” is dealing with the case.

Senior doctor committed suicide

According to the information, the first preliminary investigations began after the suicide of a senior doctor at the clinic at the end of November, who had pointed out the grievances.

According to a report by the "Südkurier" about the woman's allegations, inadequate staffing at the clinic is said to have led to significant treatment errors - resulting in the death of at least one patient.

The investigation into the case was initiated in the second half of February, the prosecutor said.

"The allegations are directed against the hospital's internal intensive care unit." The investigative authority did not provide any further details.

In a statement, the facility stated that five former and active doctors at the clinic were being investigated.

“We are of course working with police investigators here and providing all the requested data and documents,” said a spokeswoman.

The presumption of innocence continues to apply until the proceedings are completed.

In parallel to the official investigations, the clinic's supervisory board decided to have the allegations clarified through an extensive compliance investigation with external support.

“These investigations are also still ongoing.”
