Around two years after a fatal S-Bahn accident in Schäftlarn, Upper Bavaria, the Munich district court sentenced a train driver to two years in prison on probation.

The man was found guilty of, among other things, negligent homicide.

The court found it proven that the man had disregarded a red signal and regulations before the collision on February 14, 2022.

The train subsequently collided with an oncoming S-Bahn.

A 24-year-old man died and dozens of people were injured.

In his last word, the train driver tearfully apologized for his mistakes.

"I'm so sorry for everything and I'd like to undo it," he said.

»I can only apologize to everyone who was hurt.

I'm sorry."
