The City of Yokohama has compiled a draft policy that will make all 2,700 parks it manages, including Yamashita Park, one of the city's most famous tourist attractions, completely smoke-free from April next year.

According to Yokohama City's draft policy, smoking will be prohibited at approximately 2,700 locations in all parks managed by the city, including Yamashita Park and Minato-no-Meru-Oka Park, which are crowded with many people, including children. .

The city has amended its park ordinance to include "smoking" as a prohibited act, and plans to ban smoking altogether from April next year.



If you violate this law, you will be subject to a penalty of 50,000 yen.



The city currently has eight areas where smoking is prohibited, including the area around Yokohama Station and the Minato Mirai area, but in parks it has only asked for consideration, such as not smoking near children or playground equipment.



From October to November last year, the city conducted a demonstration experiment to make five parks in the city completely non-smoking, including Yamashita Park, and a survey of more than 2,000 users revealed that many voices called for stronger measures against passive smoking. It means that it was received.



The city plans to announce a draft policy for a total smoking ban by the end of this month, and will proceed with the necessary procedures to revise the ordinance, including soliciting opinions from citizens.
