In response to a report by Deutsche Welle about corruption in Venezuela, its head of state Nicolás Maduro called the German news channel a "Nazi media."

On state television on Monday, he warned of an alleged campaign aimed at "soiling Venezuela."

This is supported, among others, by the US broadcaster CNN, the AP news agency and the “German Nazi media” Deutsche Welle.

The campaign says "that all the crimes in the world today are being committed by Venezuelans," said Maduro.

In its report, Deutsche Welle accused high-ranking politicians in the South American country of being involved in drug trafficking, illegal mining and extortion.

As AFP correspondents reported, the channel could no longer be received on Monday on one of the country's largest cable network providers.

Maduro has repeatedly accused foreign media of campaigns against his country.

In 2017, CNN's Spanish-language affiliate was shut down in Venezuela amid allegations of involvement in a "conspiracy."

The national journalists' association SNTP and organizations defending freedom of expression also complain about an increasing "escalation" against Venezuelan media.

According to them, around 200 newspapers, radio stations and television channels were closed within two decades.
