Sweets fairs are being held at Western confectionery shops in the prefecture to promote the strawberry variety ``Yuyake Berry'' developed by Fukushima Prefecture.
``Yuyake Berry'' is a variety that Fukushima Prefecture spent 10 years developing to create a strawberry brand, and sales began in the year 2015.It is characterized by its strong sweetness and aroma, but low sourness.
In response to the prefecture's request to raise awareness, four Western confectionery shops and coffee shops in the prefecture are selling sweets made with Yuyake berries for a limited time.
One of these Western confectionery shops in Nihonmatsu City sells shortcakes and eclairs made with plenty of Yuyake berries.
All of the sweets are made with less sweetness such as fresh cream to bring out the characteristic sweetness of this strawberry.
A woman in her 30s from Tamura City who bought the cake said, ``I knew her name, but I'd never eaten it before, so I'm looking forward to it.''
Mai Hirakuri, a pastry shop owner, said, ``I want many people to learn about the deliciousness of Yuyake berries through cakes and other products.''
