Some parents of students believe that as long as they enter a prestigious school, they can give their children a head start. Even if the admission requirements are not met, they try to find another way to gain admission through "connection", but they do not know that they have fallen into the "prestigious school trap" of criminals.

Recently, the Shanghai Baoshan police cracked a case of fraud on the pretext of "applying admission to a prestigious school" during the fourth centralized investigation and rectification operation of "Lijian 2024".

On February 18, Mr. Wang came to the Panguang Road Police Station of the Baoshan Branch of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau to report the case, saying that he was introduced by a friend to an education consulting company to handle the enrollment of his children. However, after the application failed, the other party refused to refund the previously paid money. 700,000 "consulting fee".

According to police investigation, in September 2023, after his son entered elementary school, Mr. Wang always wanted to help his son "operate" to transfer to his ideal prestigious school, so he found Xia, who was engaged in an education consulting company, through multiple introductions.

Xia claimed to have a "way" to help his children apply for transfer qualifications to a prestigious private school across districts, and boasted to him about past success stories.

Under Xia's introduction, Mr. Wang signed a contract with Xia and paid 700,000 yuan in advance for Xia to "manage the relationship." At the same time, Xia promised to help him complete it within one semester, and if it was not completed, he would give a full refund. .

A few days later, a teacher Xu who claimed to be from the school contacted Mr. Wang and guided parents and children to prepare transfer procedures and materials. However, when parents were ready to hand in the materials, Teacher Xu began to delay for various reasons until the transfer was approaching. Before the spring semester starts, there is still no hope of transferring to another school.

In the end, Mr. Wang proposed to refund the previously paid "consulting fee" in accordance with the contract. However, Xia suddenly lost contact, and Mr. Wang called the police for help.

During the follow-up investigation, the police discovered that the school text messages and emails received by Mr. Wang can be publicly downloaded online. At the same time, according to bank transfer records, the suspect Xia received an advance payment of 700,000 yuan from Mr. Wang. The money was transferred to several other unfamiliar accounts multiple times. These accounts were parents who had financial disputes with the criminal suspect Xia due to transfer or enrollment.

On February 28, Baoshan police arrested Xia at his residence.

After arriving at the case, Xia confessed that the teacher Xu who contacted the parents was also his own performance, and the so-called "connections" and "relationships" were all fabricated by him.

The idea is to use parents' eagerness to learn to defraud the down payment after gaining the other party's trust, making an illegal profit of about 5 million yuan, and withdrawing part of it to return it to the previously deceived parents in installments. In this way, "removing the east wall to pay for the west wall" "The fraud continued until the incident came to light, and the rest of the illegal proceeds from the fraud were used by Xia to reward the anchor, cover his own debts, and spend money.

At present, the criminal suspect Xia has been criminally detained by the police in accordance with the law on suspicion of fraud, and the case is under further trial.

In addition, on March 1, the Shanghai Public Security Bureau organized and launched the fourth centralized inspection and rectification operation of "Strike 2024" across the city, continuously tightened various social control measures, strengthened the investigation and rectification of hidden risks, and severely cracked down on prominent illegal crimes.
