A former employee of a foreign insurance company was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department for allegedly hinting at marriage to a woman he met through a dating app and then defrauding her of cash.

The suspect arrested is Shogo Miyayama (32), a former employee of a foreign insurance company who lives in Chuo Ward, Tokyo.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, around August 2020, he allegedly lied to a female doctor in her 30s, whom he had met through a dating app, about wanting her to purchase a bond as a tax measure after marriage, and received 7 million yen from her. He is suspected of fraud for defrauding yen.

A former employee said, ``My grandfather, who is a wealthy man, owns land in Shibuya and is building a house for me. I would like him to put money in to help with inheritance tax.''

In response to the investigation, he admitted the charges and stated, ``I used the money to invest in stocks.I also defrauded about 100 million yen from about 10 other people, including female doctors.''

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the possibility that the woman was defrauded of a total of 25 million yen by July 2021.

The former employee was fired in May last year after an internal company investigation revealed that he was suspected of defrauding customers and others.
