A 13-year-old student was critically injured in an altercation on school grounds in Delmenhorst, Lower Saxony.
A 14-year-old attacked him with a knife on Friday morning, the police said.
The perpetrator turned himself in to the school administration and was arrested.
The injured student was responsive, was treated on site by rescue workers and is now in a hospital.
According to the police, his injuries were initially classified as life-threatening.
According to information, the altercation took place on a school site in Stubbenweg in the west of the city.
There is a secondary school and a secondary school in the street area.
The background to the incident is still unclear, it was said.
The investigation is ongoing.
