While Shizuoka Prefecture continues to refuse to approve the start of construction on the Linear Chuo Shinkansen, a new panel of experts was held by the government to check the water resources and environmental measures taken by JR Tokai.

In this meeting, it was confirmed that JR's measures will be monitored without any deadlines.

Regarding the Linear Chuo Shinkansen, Shizuoka Prefecture continues to refuse to approve the start of construction due to concerns about water resources and environmental conservation associated with tunnel construction, and in December last year, a national panel of experts decided on measures that JR Tokai should take. On the 29th, the first meeting of the government's newly established panel of experts was held to check whether JR is implementing measures in accordance with the guidelines.



In this meeting, JR explained that in preparation for the tunnel construction in Shizuoka Prefecture, they will be constantly investigating whether there are any changes in the flow rate or ecosystem of surrounding rivers.



In response to this, the meeting confirmed that members of the expert council will conduct on-site inspections starting this spring, and that they will continue to monitor JR's measures without any deadlines.

Shizuoka Prefecture's Vice Governor Takashi Mori, who also attended, said, ``I would like to highly rate the implementation of this conference in terms of balancing the development of the Linear Chuo Shinkansen with water resources and environmental conservation measures. I believe there is a lack of monitoring, and I would like to have this discussion again."
