It is unclear why the postal carrier decided to no longer deliver the letters but simply collect them at his home: In the Sigmaringen district in Baden-Württemberg, a 27-year-old is said to have hoarded several thousand letters for three years and opened some of them.
The man came to the attention of investigators after a tip from a caretaker.
It was said that he found two open bags of franked and undelivered letters in the hallway of a basement.
During a search of the 27-year-old's apartment, investigators found additional letters.
The man is now being investigated because he is said to have violated postal and telecommunications secrecy, as the police in Ravensburg and the Hechingen public prosecutor's office explained.
