In India, a freight train traveled 70 kilometers without a driver.

The state-run Indian Railways said it had launched an investigation into the incident.

According to initial findings, the train loaded with gravel rolled off from a train station in northern India on Sunday - without a driver on board.

Only after 70 kilometers could the ghost train be stopped by placing wooden blocks on the tracks.

There were no injuries in the incident.

Fatal train accident in India: "We enjoyed our journey without knowing that our lives could be over in the next moment" By Natalie Mayroth, Mumbai

The driverless train was traveling from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to Punjab at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour.

A video of the odyssey was shared on social media.

According to local media reports, the train had started moving from a train station in Kathua where it had stopped for a personnel change.

After the train driver and his assistant got out, the train simply continued rolling on the sloping route.

To prevent accidents, all level crossings on the route were closed.
