Two occupants of a car were injured in a rock fall in the Austrian state of Salzburg.

As the police announced on Monday, a rock weighing around ten tons came loose in the Abtenau area the evening before and fell onto a street.

A 49-year-old driver was unable to get out of the way in time and crashed into the rock.

The man and his 47-year-old wife, who was traveling with him, were taken to a hospital.

They were injured, but not life-threatening.

A cow that the two farmers were carrying in a trailer was seriously injured in the accident.

The animal had to be slaughtered, as broadcaster ORF reported.

A geologist examined the crash site and ruled out any risk of further rock falls.

After several hours of clearing work, the road was reopened to traffic.
