At least 25 people have died in a serious traffic accident in Tanzania.

Authorities in the East African country said 21 other people were injured in Saturday's accident.

The accident in the northern Arusha region is said to have been caused by a truck that failed to brake and collided with two buses and a car in front of it.

The driver of the truck was initially being searched for.

Legal action should be taken against him.

Tanzania's President Samia Suluhu Hassan has ordered that all injured people be treated free of charge, said Tanzania's Health Minister Godwin Mollel.

Road safety is an issue in Tanzania as in many other African countries.

According to authorities, the country with around 67 million inhabitants recorded 1,550 traffic deaths last year.
