Just a few weeks ago, actress and comedian Amy Schumer wrote about her endometriosis disease on Instagram.

She responded to comments that surfaced online about her appearance after her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

»Thank you for all the contributions about my face!

I enjoy the feedback and reflections on my appearance, as all women have for almost 20 years.

And you're right, it's more swollen than normal at the moment.

I have endometriosis, an autoimmune disease that every woman should read about," the post says.

In the disease, tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterine cavity.

Now the 42-year-old announced in journalist Jessica Yellin's newsletter "News Not Noise" that she also suffers from Cushing's syndrome - caused by high-dose steroid injections.

Symptoms of the disease include a round face, weight gain and bone pain.

Schumer says she felt reborn after the diagnosis.

"When I found out that I had the type of Cushing's that goes away on its own and that I was healthy, it was the best news you could imagine." It had been a crazy few weeks for her and her family .

She thought that she might not live to see her son grow up.

Journalist Yellin asks her why she is sharing the news with the world.

»I also wanted to advocate for women's health.

The shaming and criticism of our ever-changing bodies is something I have dealt with and witnessed for a long time.

“I so desperately want women to love themselves and fight tirelessly for their own health in a system that usually doesn't believe them,” Schumer said.
