An unusual death concerns the Sicilian investigative authorities.

A 58-year-old woman is reportedly accused of killing her indigent great-aunt with a portion of spaghetti.

As the Italian news agency Ansa reports, the alleged victim was only allowed to eat pureed food.

Despite the strict guidelines, the grandniece served the old ladies spaghetti and a dessert when they visited a restaurant.

The 80-year-old died shortly afterwards.

Initially, it was assumed that a natural death would occur in December 2022, but the events surrounding the date of death later caused suspicion.

Close relatives were reportedly surprised by the suspect's sudden interest in her great-aunt.

In addition, the will was changed shortly before death in favor of the great-niece.

The woman was awarded around half a million euros.

In an older version of the will, the 80-year-old wanted to leave her money to several charities.

When the great-niece tried to claim the inheritance for herself, bank employees became skeptical - and informed the police and public prosecutor's office.

Authorities eventually launched an investigation.

Will changed shortly before death

According to the reports, investigators determined that the suspect made arrangements to have her great-aunt moved to a nursing home hundreds of miles away from her previous home.

The move took place weeks before the death.

The suspect took the 15-hour drive across the country with her aunt.

She did not take any medication or personal items with her and did not inform other relatives.

Investigators now suspect that there is a murder plot behind the death.

As Ansa reports, the suspect has now been placed under house arrest and is wearing an ankle bracelet.

She denies the allegations and claims that she gave her great aunt the “necessary care.”

The first court hearing is scheduled for February 28th.
