Controversy The RTVE News Council launches against Inés Hernand and her behavior at the Goya with Pedro Sánchez: "It has no place"
The
RTVE Interactive Media News Council
resigned en bloc this Thursday after losing the trust of the editorial team after they harshly criticized the behavior of
Inés Hernand
on the Goya red carpet, where her interview with the President of the Government,
Pedro Sánchez
, generated a strong controversy from which Sánchez himself came out.
As reported by the Council itself through a statement, its president
Alejandro Vega
had already submitted his resignation days ago, but the other two members,
Óscar Canencia
and
Santiago Riesco
, despite having already sent their resignation, have preferred to wait until this Thursday. to make it official to "listen to
RTVE Play
colleagues
in the assembly."
"The situation is unprecedented and therefore we will contact
RTVE
's legal services to find out how to proceed in this case, announcing as soon as possible the call for elections for its renewal.
The Council will remain in office
until the replacement occurs," assures the statement.
The
News Council
asked those responsible for
RTVE Play
for explanations after the broadcast of the
Goya Awards
red carpet , entrusted to the controversial presenter
Inés Hernand
.
In a brief meeting with Pedro Sánchez, Hernand asked him: "What is the last movie she has seen?"
He responded, almost standing still: "Many, I can't tell you one."
The communicator continued asking: "Did you like
The Snow Society
?"
The President of the Government replied: "I didn't like it, I loved it."
As Sánchez left the carpet,
Hernand
finished with a shouted appeal, microphone in hand:
"You are an icon, president, we love you!"
.
"As much as we want to give a light-hearted, alternative tone designed for a youth audience, we believe that any content that carries the
RTVE brand must comply with the quality and neutrality standards included in the
RTVE
style book
and within the framework of the
Information Statute
, specifically its articles 8 and 9, which the Corporation's professionals are well aware of and to which they owe," the statement from the RTVE Interactive Media News Council argued in its criticism.
That statement also criticized the manner of the presenter, who did not skimp on "belches, complaints, bad words without context...", but focused on the substance: "It seems to us that the flattering tone towards a President of the Government, is of the whatever sign it is, it has no place on public radio and television, which is everyone's.
Indeed,
article 8
of the Statute establishes that "audiovisual information professionals have the duty to offer society information of public relevance with truthfulness, objectivity, impartiality and respect for the values enshrined in the
Radio and Television Law
. In their work they are obliged to fulfill the duties that the public service entails and, especially, they will distinguish and separate information from opinion; they will promote the knowledge and dissemination of constitutional principles and the values of equality, freedom, pluralism and tolerance; and they will facilitate democratic debate and the free expression of opinions".
For its part,
article 9
states that "audiovisual information professionals are obliged to respect the principles and standards of a deontological nature" being the first of all to "always observe a clear distinction between facts and opinions, avoiding any confusion between both things, as well as the dissemination of conjectures and rumors without clearly specifying their status as such."
The communicator was quick to respond to the criticism with an ironic message on her
The President of the Government himself came to his aid, on the same social network: "You really are an icon," he said, along with a video in which
Hernand
described several of the
Goya
attendees as "icons . "
