Masao Akahori, who was sentenced to death in the so-called "Shimada Incident" in which a 6-year-old girl was murdered in Shimada City, Shizuoka Prefecture 70 years ago, was acquitted in a retrial after being sentenced to death. He died inside.

He was 94 years old.

Masao Akahori, a native of Shimada City, Shizuoka Prefecture, was sentenced to death in 1954 for the so-called "Shimada Incident" in which a 6-year-old girl was murdered, but he continued to protest his innocence and was sentenced at a retrial held at the Shizuoka District Court. He was acquitted in 1989.

Akahori was the fourth person since the war to be found innocent after a retrial in a case in which the death penalty had been confirmed.

After that, he also participated in support activities for Iwao Hakamada (87), who was sentenced to death for the murder of a family of four in Shizuoka Prefecture 58 years ago. I would like to support him so that he can be granted a retrial as soon as possible."

According to his supporters, he passed away on the afternoon of the 22nd at a nursing home in Nagoya.

He was 94 years old.

Iwao Hakamada's older sister, Hideko (91), told NHK, ``I remember that shortly after he was released, he stopped by my house and gave me warm encouragement. After his release, he was able to spend his time freely.'' I heard that he was doing well in Nagoya even after arriving this year, so I'm very disappointed."
