Nishogakusha University announced that it was found that the previous president had plagiarized a paper published 36 years ago from another researcher's paper.

In April 2023, Nishogakusha University received a report that there was suspicion of research misconduct in seven books and papers written by former president Masayoshi Nakayama.

The results of a study by an in-house research committee announced on the 22nd revealed that six of the papers published in 1988 on American corporate law were based on original interpretations and considerations found in another researcher's paper. Plagiarism was determined because the text was written as-is, and the text was written in such a way that it could be misinterpreted as a translation of the original paper by the author.

The investigation committee said, ``This is unacceptable considering the impact it would have on other researchers who are sincerely working on their research,'' but assessed that the maliciousness of the incident was low.

In response to the investigation, the former university president admitted that he had referred to another paper, and explained that at the time, he lacked sufficient knowledge about writing the paper and the content of the research.

The former university president resigned in September 2023 following the start of this investigation.

The university commented, ``We truly regret that this kind of misconduct occurred, and we will work hard to ensure research ethics and prevent recurrence, with the aim of restoring trust as a research institution.'' I'm doing it.
