In the past few days, the number of passengers transported by Hainan to the island through ferries and flights has continued to remain high, and the number of shipments has exceeded the highest level in previous years. The Spring Festival holiday has passed, has Hainan's "difficulty in leaving the island" situation eased?

On the morning of the 20th, the official account of "Haikou Release" issued an announcement: As of 9:00 on February 20, Haikou's "Three Ports" have restored normal transportation order. At the same time, the announcement reminded that the driver of the car leaving the island should check the arrival time no more than 3 hours in advance according to the flight time on the ticket. You will not be able to enter the port without a ticket or if you arrive more than 3 hours in advance. The "three ports" mentioned in the announcement refer to the three cross-sea ports owned by Haikou City, namely: Xiuying Port, Xinhai Port, and Railway South Port. Among them, Xinhaiport is the largest port among the three ports and is also the largest port passenger and roll-off comprehensive hub in the country. During the Spring Festival, the 18 berths of Xinhaiport are operating at full capacity every day.

What does it mean for Haikou’s “Three Ports” to resume normal transportation order?

On the morning of the 20th, "Haikou Release" issued an announcement stating that Haikou's "Three Ports" have returned to normal transportation order. Does this mean that the peak of vehicles leaving the island has passed?

He Anjun, deputy director of the Straits Office of the Pearl River Navigation Administration of the Ministry of Transport: Haikou's "three ports" have restored normal transportation order. First, the emergency waiting parking lots set up under the influence of foggy weather have all been emptied of vehicles and returned to the inspection gates of each port area; Second, the transportation pressure has been greatly alleviated, the scene is orderly, and the traffic flow in the entire city has returned to normal.

Compared with the vehicle passenger flow on the Qiongzhou Strait on the 20th day of the Lunar New Year this year (the highest single-day peak of 188,000 passengers and 39,000 vehicles transported throughout the day), the vehicle passenger flow showed a downward trend. The passage time has also been greatly shortened. If you reserve a vehicle on the same day according to the ticket purchase information, you can usually board the boat and cross the sea within 3 hours.

In the past few days, the port has adopted measures to optimize the shipping process, improve ship turnover efficiency, scientifically adjust shipping spaces, dynamically increase ticket sales, improve port and ship collaboration efficiency, shorten loading and unloading time, optimize the ticket purchase process, expand servers, and strengthen system concurrency. Carrying capacity and many other measures, coupled with vigorous publicity and rolling release of port information prompts, have effectively alleviated congestion and eliminated long queues.

According to predictions, there will be an overall slow decline in the next few days, and the Qiongzhou Strait passenger and ro-ro transportation will gradually return to fast, efficient, and comfortable normal operation.

Is it still "hard to get a ticket to Hainan Island" these days?

In terms of airports, in the past few days, the three major airports of Haikou Meilan, Sanya Phoenix, and Qionghai Boao have continued to increase their transportation capacity to ensure the return of tourists. Has the situation that tourists reported in the past few days that it is difficult to get air tickets to Hainan's outlying islands or that only high-priced air tickets are available has been alleviated?

Ke Yiqi, Route Development Director of the Marketing Department of Haikou Meilan Airport: The number of outbound passengers transported by Meilan Airport on the 20th was slightly lower than the peak single-day peak of 64,900 during the Spring Festival, but it was still operating at a high level.

At present, the daily outbound passenger flow of Meilan Airport is about 60,000, and the number of outbound passengers transported accounts for about one-half of the three major airports in Hainan Island. During the Spring Festival Golden Week that just passed in 2024, Meilan Airport transported a total of 929,500 passengers, with an average daily increase of 51.43% compared to the same period in 2023.

In order to cope with the peak passenger flow, Hainan Island's three major airports actively coordinated with airlines to increase flight capacity, replace wide-body aircraft models, and rationally opened check-in counters and security check channels according to peak times to avoid serious passenger congestion.

In order to make every effort to smoothen the way for passengers returning home during the Spring Festival, Meilan Airport has coordinated with major airlines to increase flight capacity. Starting from February 17, China Southern Airlines will add 2 new one-way outbound flights every day, mainly involving Haikou to Guangzhou and Zhuhai. A total of about 4,200 seats can be provided on outbound routes, further easing the tension on return flights.

In addition, Haikou Meilan Airport has opened an "air-rail combined transport counter" to provide seamless air-rail transfer services to strengthen traffic diversion and divert passengers.

It is understood that the peak number of return trips out of Hainan has declined since February 19, and is expected to return to normal after the Lantern Festival.
