Jorge Salvador

(Barcelona, 1963) has been in the world of television and radio for decades. He has been on a multitude of successful programs, from

Vídeos de Primera

, on

RTVE

to

Alattack

, on

Antena 3

; passing through

Crónicas marcianas

, on

Telecinco

, to give just a few examples. That has given him great experience in locating success at a glance.

It was precisely that look that made him see something more in

Pablo Motos

to propose him making the leap from radio to television as a collaborator of

Channel nº4

en

Cuatro

, or partnering with the Valencian to create the production company

7yAcción

, architect of the success of

El Hormiguero

for 18 years or the most recent

El Desafío

, which has already had four seasons, or

The Road Home

, with the second season currently broadcast.

This is what a day is like in the guts of El Hormiguero.

Why are Pablo Motos's ants invincible?

El Hormiguero

has just received the

Rose d'Or Latinos

award for Best Variety Program in Miami, and

Jorge Salvador

took advantage of his stay in the American city to sell the portfolio of

7yAcción

programs and promote their broadcast in Latin America and the United States: «La

Rose d'Or

is the beginning of a market that takes place every year called

Content Miami

where, above all, Latin American countries, but also the US, go and all the television professionals in the area meet to buy and sell programs. », explains Salvador. "For two days I was at a

stand

offering ours."

The man from Barcelona has also reviewed with EL MUNDO the process of selling the programs, in addition to remembering how, thanks to his wife and children, he learned of the existence of a radio program where

Pablo Motos

and his collaborators conquered viewers on M80.

What does it mean for your production company and for

El Hormiguero

to receive an international award like the Rose d'Or? After 18 years it reaffirms that we are, possibly, in one of the best moments in the history of the program. Being recognized by such an important award, the second most significant on television in the world after the Emmy, is important to us. Previously this award had a more European level, but now it has a Latin version. We already had two: in 2009 we won in Lucerne and in 2011 we repeated for the Carlos Jean section. But

El Desafío

and

El Camino Home

were also nominated ...Yes, the first in the Talent or Competition Program category, and the second, in a

Reality

or Factual Program, although they did not win.

El Hormiguero

has already been broadcast with local presenters and ants in Chile, Brazil, Portugal, Mexico and, to some extent, in China. Now there are some more interested countries and we are negotiating.

"El Hormiguero is broadcast with local presenters in Chile, Brazil, Portugal, Mexico and, to some extent, in China"

They have sold 200 El Hormiguero

programs

to the US. What does this sale consist of? We have sold what in the sector we call

can

, which is the program as it was broadcast in Spain so that Pablo and the ants can be seen in other countries such as Uruguay or El Salvador. Furthermore, what arose this year was the possibility of it being seen in the US, that's why I announced it live. And will it be broadcast dubbed in English, or in Spanish? They raised the possibility of dubbing the voices into neutral Spanish with artificial intelligence. , they usually do it that way there, but it seemed a little strange to us. It is the Spanish used on American television, which is a mixture of Colombian, Mexican, Argentine... The language of Disney movies. We said no, that was, among other things, technically impossible, we did not mix the program with separate tracks. In any case, the fact that

El Hormiguero

can be seen in the US is very cool.

"They proposed to us to dub the program into neutral Spanish with artificial intelligence to broadcast it in the US, but we refused"

Has there also been international interest in your other two star programs? The novelty this year has been

El Desafío

. It is the format with which we are working the most internationally. In fact, before the Miami market we had already sold 14 licenses to different countries where some seasons have already ended, others are renewed and pending broadcast, and still others are yet to be done. We have sold options to the Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Scandinavia, Russia, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Poland, Uruguay and France so that they can do it with their own presenter, they have not bought the

Spanish

version with Roberto Leal How are these versions usually managed? There are two options: some make their own version directly, and others set up a set in a country - Colombia, for example - and people of different nationalities participate - two contestants from Ecuador, two from Panama, two from Colombia and two from Chile - to then sell those deliveries to the countries where the contestants come from and have it broadcast there.

"

The Challenge

is the format with which we work the most internationally, although here countries prefer to make their versions"

How did you meet Pablo Motos? When

Crónicas Marcianas

finished , they asked me to direct a program called

Channel n.º4

with Boris Izaguirre and Ana García-Siñeriz. In four months I had to create a format and find collaborators. We started looking for people, and when I was in that process my wife and my children told me that I had to know a radio program that they listened to when they went to school and that it was hilarious. It was called

We Are Nobody

and it was made by a certain Pablo Motos in M80. I offered him to be a collaborator on

Channel n.º4

but it was difficult for me to convince him to come once a week. How did their alliance come about? Pablo drew a lot of attention to Fernando Jerez, a manager who was at Cuatro at that time and he offered him to do his own program. There the germ of

El Hormiguero

was created

, which was an idea and a name that Pablo had in his head for a long time. He contributed some ideas, I gave others and the program was born. The first two years were produced by Gestmusic, but for the third we wanted to do it ourselves and created 7yAcción... And so on, until today!
