Serious accident in Switzerland: A parachutist plane crashed near Grenchen airfield on Sunday afternoon. According to the Solothurn cantonal police, the pilot died, the other eleven occupants managed to land safely on the ground with the help of their parachutes. The Swiss “Blick” and the broadcaster SRF also reported on the incident.

According to the Keystone-SDA news agency, the accident machine was an aircraft belonging to the Skydive Grenchen parachute club. Several patrols from the Solothurn cantonal police, the Grenchen fire department, the federal security investigation center (Sust) and the Federal Criminal Police were on site. It is currently unclear how the accident occurred.

Images of a completely destroyed wreckage could be seen on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter. According to an eyewitness, the plane fell vertically to the ground.

There is an important regional airport in the small town of Grenchen. The airport sees around 60,000 flight movements every year. The plane crashed into a nearby field.
