About eight months after the rape of a 14-year-old at Schlachtensee in Berlin-Zehlendorf, two young men have been convicted. The Berlin regional court imposed a youth sentence of three years on a 19-year-old, a court spokeswoman said on Monday. The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported.

Because of the risk of absconding, the court ordered that the young man remain in custody. A co-defendant, an 18-year-old, received a suspended sentence of nine months for the sexual assault. As a condition, he must take part in social training and complete 60 hours of leisure work. In addition, the two young people convicted must pay a total of 5,000 euros in compensation.

Judgment not yet final

Many parts of the trial before a juvenile criminal chamber were held behind closed doors. As has now become known, the court handed down its verdict on February 13th. It is not yet legally binding.

In the 19-year-old's case, the court's sentence went well beyond the prosecutor's request. According to the court spokeswoman, she had applied for a two-year suspended sentence.

According to the verdict, the men sexually abused the then 14-year-old on June 9, 2023 at Schlachtensee. The teenager initially celebrated there with around 80 young people. Friends later found the girl bleeding in the bushes.

As part of the investigation, police officers searched apartments in the districts of Schöneberg, Tempelhof and Zehlendorf in mid-July and confiscated data storage devices. The 19-year-old has been in custody since August 10th. In the case of the 18-year-old, no risk of escape was seen due to his living conditions.
