Tohoku Electric Power Co., Ltd. has announced that the safety measures currently underway at Unit 2 of the Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant in Miyagi Prefecture, which had been postponed from a restart scheduled for around May this year, are now on track to be completed. The company announced that it is expected to start operations around September this year.

After passing the prerequisite examination for restarting the Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant in 2020, safety measures are being carried out, including covering the cable pipes with non-combustible material.

Tohoku Electric Power had planned to restart operations around May this year, but last month announced that it would be delayed by several months due to an increase in the amount of construction work required due to changes in the cable layout.

According to the announcement, the construction work is expected to be completed in June this year, and with this, nuclear fuel will be put into the reactor around July, and it is expected to restart around September. .

This is the second time that a new restart date has been announced due to postponement, and Tohoku Electric Power's Nuclear Power Headquarters Chief Sadao Kanazawa said at a press conference, ``We are doing our best to complete the construction with safety as our top priority.'' We aim to restart operations while gaining the understanding of everyone."
