Elementary school students in Tsuruta Town, Aomori Prefecture, experienced the work of digging up ``Yukimuro'' apples, which were stored in a ``Yukimuro,'' a natural refrigerator made of snow.

At Tsuruta Elementary School in Tsuruta Town, hands-on learning such as cultivating and harvesting apples, a local specialty, is held throughout the year.On the 19th, approximately 30 fifth graders visited producers in the Myodozaki area and participated in the ``Snow Snow'' event. I experienced digging up "Muro apples".

The children used a shovel to break down a ``yukimuro'' (about 2 meters high) and carried out boxes containing three types of apples, including red ``San Fuji'' and yellow ``Orin.''

Apples stored in a snow room retain their moisture, making them juicy and sweet, and the children who tasted them on the spot were surprised at how delicious the snow room apples were.

One of the boys said, ``The apples in the snow room were very juicy and tasted better than apples in the refrigerator. It's easy to just put them in the snow room, so I want to try preserving them myself.''

Producer Mitsuhiko Nakano said, ``We had a hard time making snowy apples this year due to the lack of snow, but I'm glad that the children learned about the deliciousness of snowy apples.''
