The fire department in the Celle district freed a helpless woman from a sinking car. On Sunday she drove her car off the road in Wienhausen and ended up in a ditch that currently has significantly more water than usual due to the constant rain. As the fire department reported, the driver was no longer able to free herself from her car.

“After the vehicle unexpectedly filled with more water and continued to sink within a few seconds, several firefighters and police officers took off their clothes and swam to the sinking car,” the fire department said. We managed to open the roof of the convertible with a knife - luckily it was a fabric roof. This enabled the driver to be freed.

To recover the car, divers then attached several air cushions to the vehicle, so-called lifting bags. The car then rose back to the surface and could be pulled ashore with a winch.
