Singaporean and Chinese scientists Xinyue Liu, Dongxiao Zhang and Xiaogang He reported this in an article for the scientific journal Science Advances.

“A warming climate will lead to widespread increases in locust outbreaks, ... leading to new challenges for global coordination of locust control,” the publication said.

According to scientists, rising temperatures, as well as increased precipitation, will create favorable conditions for locusts in atypical areas, which will lead to a worsening of the situation in Africa and South Asia.

The article notes that these regions are important breadbaskets for the whole world, so pest invasions can lead to serious crop failures that threaten global food security.

Earlier it became known that Russian scientists from Tomsk State University have developed a new insecticide to protect cultivated plants from insect pests.
