She set out on a winter hike and didn't return: An 85-year-old woman from Bavaria died in an accident in Austria. After a nighttime search, she was found lifeless in a ravine in the state of Vorarlberg. According to the police, she fell around 180 meters in the Damüls area.

Son called rescue

According to the police, the holidaymaker from the Starnberg district set off on a winter hike on Friday morning. After she didn't return, her son called her hotel that evening, which in turn alerted the emergency services.

Around 50 rescue workers, as well as search dogs, a helicopter and a thermal imaging drone were involved in the search. After around eight hours, the woman's body was discovered by the mountain rescue team in a stream bed on Saturday night. An alpine police officer said there was no snow on the hiking trail where the woman apparently slipped and fell.
