In response to the issue of assaults on inmates at Nagoya Prison, Minister of Justice Koizumi expressed his intention to persistently work to change the environment and mindset of the organization regarding measures to prevent recurrence, which are being implemented at prisons across the country.

At Nagoya Prison, 22 young correctional officers repeatedly assaulted three inmates from 2021 to 2017, and 13 of them were referred to prosecutors and all charges were suspended.

In response to this, Minister of Justice Koizumi said of the Ministry of Justice's measures to prevent recurrence, ``Of the 68 specific measures included in the action plan, three-quarters of them have been implemented or trialled in penal institutions nationwide.'' clarified.

He then said, ``This is a major effort to change the culture of the organization, so it won't happen overnight, but I want to be persistent and move in the right direction.''

According to the Ministry of Justice, as a measure to prevent a recurrence, starting from April this year, prisons across the country will no longer call prisoners by name, and in principle, will call them by ``san''.

Additionally, body-worn cameras will be introduced in eight prisons across the country with large numbers of inmates to provide support to correctional officers who are in charge of difficult-to-treat inmates.
