Police officers in the Hameln-Pyrmond district found 40 kilos of wild garlic in a young man's car. During a check at a hiking parking lot in the Hameln-Pyrmont district, police officers discovered two plastic bags containing the fresh wild plant in the man's car, the police reported. The driver stated that he had picked the wild garlic in the nearby forest for his own use. He came to Lower Saxony from Gelsenkirchen especially for this purpose.

Picking herbs and wild plants from non-protected areas is only permitted in small quantities and exclusively for personal use. At 40 kilograms it was no longer a small amount, the police said.

The officials suspected there was a commercial background to the processing of the wild garlic. Proceedings are to be initiated against the man for violating the Federal Nature Conservation Act.
