As part of a series of criticism by Israeli occupation soldiers of their military and political leaders over the way they conducted the war in the Gaza Strip, the Hebrew media revealed a recent episode issued by soldiers of the Givati Brigade, which sparked reactions across social media platforms.

According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, soldiers from the brigade recently refused to obey orders and carry out military missions inside Gaza City, due to their psychological condition and physical fatigue.

The newspaper explains that a force from the brigade was sent last week to the heart of Gaza City, but a number of soldiers refused to get off the troop carrier and refrained from carrying out the mission, because they did not obtain sufficient recovery leave, and feared that this would harm their military competencies, which would expose them and their colleagues to danger during the fighting.

The Givati Brigade is affiliated with the Southern Army Command, and includes a number of multi-mission battalions and units. Its soldiers are distinguished by wearing a purple hat, in addition to black shoes, and its emblem is an image of a cactus plant in the desert, with a sword in the middle surrounded by a red fox.

The brigade participated in the ground invasions launched by the occupation forces into Gaza City during the 2008-2009 war, the 2014 war, and the 2023 war.

Disturbances and confusion

The Shabakat program (2/15/2024) monitored some of the interaction of tweeters with this refrain, including what Tariq wrote: “The invincible army, if it were defending a right, would not surrender, but they know that they are wasting their lives for no reason.”

Raed tweeted: “They were bullying children and women, and when they came to Al-Qassam, people were very disturbed in fear until they killed each other.” In the same context, Adam said: “This confirms the superiority of the heroic mujahideen, their control over the battlefield, and the damage they are achieving to this defeated enemy.”

As for Samih, he wrote, “Disobedience must percolate within all army structures and then spread to the settlers and occupiers of the land, and this is what has already begun after we saw their airports crowded with departures.”

The soldiers of this brigade were not the only ones on whom the war in Gaza had psychological effects. According to the Israeli media, about 3,000 regular and reserve soldiers have been examined by mental health officers since the beginning of the war on Gaza on October 7 of last year.

A recently published study predicted that up to 625,000 people in Israel are suffering from psychological damage as a result of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” battle and the ensuing war on the Gaza Strip, with increasing fears of a rise in suicide rates.

This situation is exacerbated by the departure of dozens of psychiatrists from Israel to Britain in search of more stable living conditions, according to what Haaretz newspaper revealed.
