In an interview given to "Paris Match" this Thursday, February 15, Valérie Lemercier returns to the Depardieu affair and explains why she never signed a column in support of or against the actor. The president of the 49th edition of the César has, however, already toured with the actor indicted for rape and sexual assault.

“My role is to relax and have fun”

Several personalities, including Muriel Robin and Alexandra Lamy, were outraged by the behavior of the 75-year-old actor, also indicted for rape and sexual assault, via a text published in

Libération

. Others, like Carole Bouquet, Yvan Attal, Jacques Dutronc and Charlotte Rampling preferred to defend him in the name of "art" in a column published in

Le Figaro

. Jacques Weber and Pierre Richard, signatories of the text, backpedaled.

Valérie Lemercier did not sign either of the two forums. However, the actress knows Gérard Depardieu well, with whom she has filmed several times, notably in 

Asterix and Obelix: In the Service of Her Majesty. 

In an interview given to

Paris Match

this Thursday, February 15, the actress, president of the 49th César ceremony, explains this choice of silence. “My role is to relax, to amuse. Do I have the right to entertain, and does more or less indignation make sense?” she asks. “I have never signed a petition in my life. Many people mix everything up in the Depardieu affair,” she then assures before concluding: “There is no sense in speaking out for or against a a matter which concerns, above all, justice. And, of course, the victims.” Valérie Lemercier will therefore not take a position.
