Four people, including a dedicated Amazon driver, were arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department for allegedly purchasing e-book devices and other items from major online retailer Amazon, lying about requesting returns, and defrauding customers of replacement items.

Four people were arrested: Yuto Hatanaka (24), whose occupation is unknown, from Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo, and three Amazon drivers in their 20s to 30s.



According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the suspects Hatanaka and others purchased approximately 180,000 yen worth of e-book devices and hair removal devices on the Amazon website in June last year, and even though they had not yet arrived, they complained that they would not turn on. He is suspected of fraud after falsely requesting a return and then defrauding him of the replacement product that was sent to him instead.



By canceling the debit card you used to purchase the product before Amazon notices the fraud, you can get two of the same product with one purchase, and then take it to the store where you bought it and get 80% off the original price. It was sold in about a minute.



According to the investigation so far, the four people repeatedly made approximately 1,300 returns in the 18 months ending last November, and used over 360 debit cards in other people's names and approximately 600 Amazon accounts. It is believed that
