"Sister Cui, we are passing by on patrol. Let's take a look and wish you a happy New Year..." On the afternoon of February 13, several civilian auxiliary police officers from the Wangqiao Police Station of the Xiangyuan County Public Security Bureau in Shanxi Province walked into the home of villager Cui Xiulan.

Wangqiao Police Station currently has 18 civilian auxiliary police officers. Over the past four years, everyone, regardless of age, has called Cui Xiulan "eldest sister" and helped her and her family overcome obstacles time and time again.

The relationship between Cui Xiulan and Wangqiao Police Station began in 2020. At that time, because her husband beat her, she dragged her husband to the Wangqiao Police Station for "review."

"It is common for elderly couples to quarrel, but it is rare for one party to attack the other." Zhao Shusheng, director of Wangqiao Police Station, carefully studied the situation and found the crux of the problem: Cui Xiulan's husband lost control of his behavior during an illness.

In order to ensure the safety of Cui Xiulan and other family members, the police from Wangqiao Police Station contacted a nearby hospital in Lucheng District on the same day, and a car came to pick up Cui Xiulan's husband for treatment.

After learning more about the situation, Zhao Shusheng found that Cui Xiulan's life was really not easy: her wife and son suffered from the same disease and were unable to work; she also had to take care of her 88-year-old mother-in-law and raise her young granddaughter. The living expenses of the family of five depend entirely on her farming, selling cold noodles, and doing odd jobs.

Before Cui Xiulan left the police station, Zhao Shusheng called out to her. "Sister, please save my mobile phone number. No matter what difficulties your family has, you can call me at any time, day or night."

Zhao Shusheng has been calling her "big sister" for four years. This has also become the common title for Cui Xiulan among all the civilian auxiliary policemen at Wangqiao Police Station. Everyone is helping Cui Xiulan and her family more and more.

Cui Xiulan's granddaughter was lively and cheerful in the past few years, but for a while she hid from people. After discovering this situation, Li Peng, deputy director of Wangqiao Police Station, went to the school principal and head teacher to understand the situation and analyze the reasons.

Later, the school teacher made conscious arrangements and called on the students to call Cui Xiulan's granddaughter during activities and games. After a period of time, Cui Xiulan's granddaughter communicated more with her classmates and had more smiles on her face.

One night, Cui Xiulan's wife and son smashed the windows at home. After Guo Jianwen, deputy director of Wangqiao Police Station, arrived to calm the two people's emotions, he found that Cui Xiulan's heart was in pain and hurriedly dialed "120" to call for an ambulance.

Because Cui Xiulan was worried about the cost of using an ambulance and insisted not to go to the hospital, Guo Jianwen paid for the ambulance. The next day, Cui Xiulan made a special trip to Wangqiao Police Station to pay back the money, but she "couldn't resist" Guo Jianwen and could only leave her gratitude and return.

When the weather is warm, Cui Xiulan sells cold skin on the street when she has time. Once, she set up a stall near the Xiangyuan County Federation of Trade Unions. Several police officers from the Wangqiao Police Station saw her stall and each ate a bowl of cold skin and had to bring several portions to their colleagues.

"I still don't understand what they mean, which is to support my business in other ways." Cui Xiulan said that the civilian auxiliary police officers from Wangqiao Police Station often buy her cold noodles, and they also take the initiative to contact colleagues from the Xiangyuan County Public Security Bureau to help her for free. I filmed a promotional video and posted it on Douyin.

In September 2022, the police from Wangqiao Police Station took the initiative to contact relevant local departments to help organize relevant information, and applied for subsistence allowances for Cui Xiulan and her husband, adding another layer of security to the lives of her family.

"I know all of the dozen or so people at the (Wangqiao) Police Station. The younger ones, even younger than my son, also call me 'eldest sister', which sounds very friendly." Cui Xiulan said that she usually encounters some troubles. It was also the civilian auxiliary police officers from Wangqiao Police Station who helped her solve the problem.

The civilian auxiliary police officers from Wangqiao Police Station were very happy to learn that Cui Xiulan's husband and son were in good condition recently. When leaving, Cui Xiulan sent them outside the gate and repeated one sentence: Remember to go back "home" when you have time. (over)
