On the night of the 13th, there was an accident between a train and a passenger car at a railroad crossing on the JR Iida Line in Toyokawa City, Aichi Prefecture, resulting in the death of the woman driving the car.



Although no passengers on the train were injured, part of the lead car derailed as a result of this accident, and the JR Iida Line is no longer operable in some sections.

According to the police, at around 7:30 p.m. on the 13th, a passenger car collided with a two-car local train bound for Toyohashi at the Suzuyo railroad crossing on the JR Iida Line in Toyokawa-cho, Toyokawa City.



The driver of the car in this accident, a 39-year-old Brazilian woman living in Toyokawa City, was taken to the hospital, but she was pronounced dead approximately two hours later.



There were no injuries to the approximately 20 passengers on the train.



The scene was a level crossing with a warning system and a barrier, and according to JR Tokai, the barrier was down at the time of the accident.



According to police, the train driver said, ``I saw the car at the railroad crossing and applied the brakes suddenly, but I couldn't stop in time and the train collided.''



Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident in detail.



According to JR Tokai, part of the lead car derailed as a result of this accident, and the JR Iida Line was no longer able to operate on the up and down lines between Toyohashi Station and Shinjo Station.



The train was unable to operate from the first train on the 14th due to restoration work, and is not expected to restart until the evening.
