An approximately 200-year-old oak tree in Regenstauf (Regensburg district) was apparently deliberately poisoned. Five holes were drilled into the trunk of the tree and an unknown poison was injected, police said. As a result, the oak died and had to be felled.

The extent to which the surrounding landscape was damaged still needs to be investigated. The 53-year-old owner of the forest where the oak stood reported the case to the police on Friday.

The as yet unknown perpetrators had probably drilled the holes over the last month. The damage is estimated at around 3,000 euros.
