An Egyptian content maker sparked controversy and controversy that went beyond social media after revealing that when the price of a travel ticket is more than $250, the relevant authorities force the traveler to pay its value in dollars, not in Egyptian pounds.

The story of activist Sarah Magdy began when she wanted to buy a plane ticket from inside Egypt, but she was surprised that she had to pay in dollars, as she herself told the episode (2/12/2024) of the “Shabakat” program.

After the controversy sparked by Sarah’s words, EgyptAir responded with a statement in which it said that the issuance of travel tickets within the country for flights starting from Egyptian airports is done in the local currency, with its commitment “not to issue any tickets from inside Egypt for flights that start from outside the Republic.”

On social media, tweets and comments continued on what the content creator said, some of which were monitored by an episode of the “Shabakat” program.

In his tweet, Basil Fahmawi interpreted the content creator’s words by saying, “What is exactly happening is that the Egyptian pound no longer has value and the government is unable to inform you, so they made the subject of a maximum of $250 because your money no longer exists.”

Mahmoud Abu Al-Futouh wrote to Sarah, who sparked the controversy, “Why are you traveling and leaving the country? Believe me, this country is better than others. They are afraid for you and your interests, and that is why they are making it difficult.”

Mustafa Salah considered the content maker’s words inaccurate, and wrote, “She lives abroad and wants to book in pounds and the Egyptian card, and saves in currency between the official and the black market. All that happened is that she is upset that she will pay in the currency of the country she resides in. If she takes off from Egypt, she will pay in Egyptian.” normal".

As for Ahmed Pasha, he commented, “Everyone who goes these days reserves a place on the bridges that have been completed, because no one will be able to pay rent, gas, or electricity, and my greetings to the bridges.”

The “Science and Faith” account stated that Egypt is moving in the same path as Lebanon: “After a while, grocery stores will hang up paper that is forbidden from dealing in Egyptian pounds, dealing in dollars only, so bring me the dollar, Uncle Ali and my aunt Fawzia, so that you can eat and drink.”
