China News Service, Hangzhou, February 11 (Bao Mengni and Wu Mijia) "The weather is good, the weather is good during the Spring Festival! Don't worry!" For Jing Yadong, a power operation and maintenance personnel from Jilin, this year's Spring Festival is a bit special - —It’s not only the first year of marriage, but also the first Spring Festival without going home after starting work.

The ±800 kV Qiantangjiang converter station where Jing Yadong works is located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. It is the receiving station of the Baihetan-Zhejiang ±800 kV UHV DC transmission project (referred to as the "Baihetan Project"). At the end of 2022, the Baizhe Project will be officially put into operation. Today, the maximum transmission capacity of the project is 8 million kilowatts, and the total power transmission capacity in one day can meet the daily electricity consumption of 211,000 people for a year. Through the Baijiang-Zhejiang Project, clean hydropower from Sichuan can be delivered to Zhejiang in just 7 milliseconds. The DC power is converted into AC power by the ±800 kV Qiantang River converter station, and then it can flow into thousands of households in Jiaxing, Hangzhou and other areas of Zhejiang through the capillary-like power grid.

If the Baijiang-Zhejiang Project is compared to the "artery" that transmits power from west to east, the ±800 kV Qiantang River Converter Station is a "heart" that beats all the time.

Jing Yadong said that as early as when he was choosing a career, he and his family had prepared themselves mentally for the situation of "not going home during the Spring Festival". But he didn't expect that in the first year of "guarding the heart", he would encounter his wife who was pregnant with the "dragon baby".

"She is also from Jilin. We both have a special work and rest pattern. We almost have one day off at the same time a week. I am good at cooking. When I have time, I cook her favorite dishes at home and send them to her." Speaking of his wife, Jing said Yadong's face was full of smiles. He also made dumplings stuffed with pickled cabbage well before the Spring Festival and shared his skills with his colleagues who worked together at their posts.

It is understood that in order to ensure stable and safe power supply during the Spring Festival, the operation and maintenance personnel of the ±800 kV Qiantang River Converter Station need to inspect the converter station covering an area of more than 300 acres twice a day, with the average daily number of steps exceeding 20,000.

"Inspection work is a meticulous job. For some equipment, we also need to check the status of the equipment in detail through infrared temperature measuring instruments, just like a physical examination of the equipment. If the temperature is too high, we need to further notify the maintenance personnel. In addition, we Every day, we have to check oil level gauges and other equipment, transcribe data, and complete daily comparisons," Jing Yadong said.

When the reporter visited the ±800 kV Qiantang River Converter Station, he noticed that for safety reasons, umbrellas were not allowed inside the station, and staff could only wear raincoats for work. Protective helmets with narrow brim had limited effect on blocking oncoming raindrops. For most electric power workers, it is normal to come and go in the wind and rain.

In addition, the main control room, which needs to be on duty 24 hours a day, is also the "main position" of the exchange station operation and maintenance personnel.

On New Year's Eve, the converter station operation and maintenance staff Ding Ke, who was about to celebrate his 30th birthday, did not sit in front of the TV with his parents to watch the Spring Festival Gala as in previous years. Instead, he stuck to the monitoring screen in the main control room to prevent emergencies. Appear. Accompanying him was a gold ring on his ring finger.

"I bought this when I received my certificate last year. It not only reminds me of my wife, but also reminds me that now that I have a family, I must be responsible as a man." Ding Ke said that unlike staying in Hangzhou to celebrate the New Year in 2021, this time For the first time, he "took the initiative" to stay and guard the converter station. He felt that he had an extra responsibility on his shoulders.

Although he inspects and monitors the same equipment every day, Ding Ke never feels bored. Regardless of whether there is a problem or not, the operation and maintenance personnel always maintain the same serious attitude.

"From the perspective of our converter station, everyone hopes that the equipment will run smoothly without any problems. But for the operation and maintenance team, failure to find problems for a long time may also mean that there is room for improvement in the inspection." Ding Ke explain.

At present, almost all the operation and maintenance team of the ±800 kV Qiantang River Converter Station are post-90s generation. While starting families, a new generation of young people is taking over the baton from their predecessors and becoming the backbone of the "Electricity Guardians".

Ding Ke hopes that he can successfully complete the duty plan for the Spring Festival, which will not only allow his colleagues at the site to have a happy New Year with peace of mind, but also protect the lights of thousands of homes and warm every family. (over)
