Lara Mason from Walsall in central England was just waiting for the opportunity: the 37-year-old baked a life-sized cake in the shape of the singer Taylor Swift. Mason told the Guardian that she had long wanted to turn the US singer into a cake. "I've always wanted to make a Taylor Swift cake because it's been at the top of everyone's list for the last five years," she said. "I really like her, I'm not a die-hard 'Swiftie', but I appreciate her music and the fact that she's a role model for women."

She never got around to baking a cake. Now the Super Bowl is just around the corner. Mason and her husband are very interested in the NFL - the perfect opportunity to bring the two together, she told the Guardian. The video of her Taylor Swift cake has been viewed more than three million times on TikTok.

130 kilograms of ingredients and 38 hours of working time

Her cake reaction shows Swift wearing a Kansas City Chiefs sweatshirt - the team her boyfriend Travis Kelce plays for. The vanilla-flavored cake took 38 hours to make, spread over a week, and used 130 kilograms of ingredients, the Guardian reports.

Mason got the inspiration to make “big, extravagant cakes” from US television shows. »I thought, how hard can this actually be? Then I tried it and realized: Yes, it's really hard. “In the beginning, it was just about the challenge,” says Mason, who runs her own business, Lara’s Cakes.

A lifelike depiction of the Grinch was a particular success online. Since then, her business has boomed and her designs can be seen all over the world. »If something has ugly features, like the Grinch, who is green and has wrinkles on his face, it's a little easier. Because even if you do something wrong, you still know it's the Grinch," she said.

»But when it comes to doing Taylor Swift, it's so hard because she's so beautiful and her features are so perfect. People will pick apart tiny details because everyone knows exactly what she looks like.”

Mason doesn't rule out dissecting her creation as a halftime treat. »It's still standing at the moment. In a way it's a good thing it's so cold in the UK at the moment because it will keep it going for a good three or four weeks. She could be our halftime snack during the Super Bowl.”
