A newly discovered species of lizard in Peru has been named after Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson. The lizard was discovered in a nature reserve in the Amazon region of northern Peru, the Peruvian nature conservation authority Sernanp announced.

The reptile, which lives in the rainforest, will now be given the scientific name “Enyalioides dickinsoni” in “honor of Paul Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer of the legendary heavy metal band Iron Maiden,” the authority explained.

The agency did not disclose whether there were heavy metal fans among the scientists who discovered and named the lizard. What is certain, however, is that the band, which was founded in London in 1975, also has many fans in the South American country where it performed.

The newly discovered lizard species is characterized by an orange head, green body and short legs. A second previously unknown species of lizard was also discovered in the same region, which the scientists named “Enyalioides cyanocephalus”.
