After the allegedly violent death of a woman in Spain, the 48-year-old's two underage sons have come under suspicion. The woman's gagged body was discovered on Wednesday evening in the trunk of a vehicle in Castro Urdiales in the Cantabria region in the north of the country, the responsible authorities announced.

At least one of the two sons is considered a suspect, the second is younger than 14 and therefore cannot be prosecuted, said the representative of the Spanish Interior Ministry in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, in an interview with the radio station Cope. The youth public prosecutor’s office will decide how to proceed in both cases.

"The head was covered with a garbage bag"

The case caused a stir in Spain and even replaced the ongoing farmers' protests as the main topic in the media on Thursday. The two sons are 13 and 16 years old, state television broadcaster RTVE and other media reported, citing investigators. Other media reports that the older brother is 15 years old. They were initially reported missing on Thursday night and were found a short time later in a park and taken into custody, it said.

The newspaper "El Mundo" wrote: "The body had several wounds and the head was covered with a garbage bag." The exact circumstances of the woman's death and the discovery of the body initially remained unknown.
