Yesterday Álvaro García Ortiz suffered

one of the loudest and most forceful failures that can be remembered for a state attorney general:

the coercive atmosphere with which he has contaminated the most sensitive case for the interests of the Government, the one that analyzes the role of Carles Puigdemont In the Tsunami Democràtic riots, it has not had the desired effect.

After four hours of legal debate, and against the opinion of García Ortiz,

an overwhelming majority of the Board of Prosecutors of the Supreme Court

c

He concluded that there is sufficient evidence for the high court to investigate the escaped Junts leader for terrorism, as requested by Judge Manuel García-Castellón. Twelve of the 15 prosecutors appreciate possible terrorist crimes, and eleven see evidence of responsibility of the main protagonist of the amnesty promoted by the Government to guarantee the legislature.

The decision of the Board of Prosecutors represents a resounding disavowal of the attorney general, who, after dragging down the image of the Public Ministry since his appointment, now confirms that he lacks ascendancy with the fiscal leadership. He is not a minority but an unappealable majority of the prosecutors with the greatest

legal and moral of our country, and of different sensitivities, which has amended the position of García Ortiz, who has always denied terrorism in

tsunami

and that he did not want to condemn the accusations of

lawfare

against their prosecutors. It also remains

very weakened before the Government that appointed him:

The attorney general heads a hierarchical institution, but his subordinates are beyond his control.

Special mention should be made of the prosecutor rapporteur Álvaro Redondo, who, as Ángela Martialay's information has revealed, underwent a radical change of opinion, to the point of writing two reports in 72 hours with opposing arguments after a meeting with García Ortiz. His position, the last one that coincides with the attorney general, was defeated yesterday.

Redondo's conservative-leaning role has not only been grotesquely useless,

but leaves on his figure the indelible mark of servility to power.

The important opinion of the Board of Prosecutors

It also complicates the Government's negotiations with Junts

, whom Pedro Sánchez wants to attract to the Amnesty Law by convincing Puigdemont that he will not be prosecuted for terrorism, which would protect his impunity. The president has said it personally even in Brussels. Twelve Supreme Court prosecutors, twelve jurists of unquestionable prestige, have disavowed it. His conclusion is not binding on the Criminal Chamber, chaired by Manuel Marchena, nor will the final report that García Ortiz's de facto number two in the Prosecutor's Office will write; but without any doubt

reinforces the authority of the Chamber

to, if deemed appropriate, open a case against the president's parliamentary partner.
