The ``World Orchid Exhibition,'' which brings together various types of orchids, began on the 7th in Tokyo.

This exhibition is held every year by NHK and other organizations, and at the opening ceremony, Princess Yuko, the eldest daughter of the Prince Takamado family, said, ``I think one of the charms of orchids that fascinate many people is their diversity.'' was the greeting.

More than 1,000 types of orchids were on display at the venue, and the top prize, the Japan Grand Prize, was won by Dendrobium polyanthum, which was exhibited by Takako Kamiya from Kanagawa Prefecture.

Due to the heavy snowfall, the number of exhibits was 70% less than planned, so Princess Seiko was asked by Mr. Kamiya, ``Did the transportation go well?''

The ``World Orchid Exhibition'' is being held at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo until February 14th.
