An initiative was carried out in Mombetsu City, Hokkaido to allow foreigners visiting the area under the technical intern training program to enjoy sightseeing on drift ice.

This initiative was undertaken for the first time by the city and the Fisheries Processing Industry Cooperative Association this year, with the aim of providing an opportunity for foreigners visiting Monbetsu City from countries such as Thailand and Vietnam for the technical intern training program to have fun.

On the second day, the 6th, about 80 people boarded the drift ice sightseeing boat "Garinko".

In Monbetsu City, drift ice washes up to the coast every day, and the participants cheered as they enjoyed the scenery of pure white drift ice spreading all over the sea and the thrilling experience of moving through the drift ice while breaking it. I had fun playing and taking pictures.

A woman from Indonesia who was seeing drift ice for the first time said, ``It's fun to see drift ice. Mombetsu is cold, but the scenery is beautiful and I like it.''

Yoko Kato, chairperson of the Monbetsu City International Exchange Station Management Committee, which sponsored the event, said, ``People seemed to enjoy it, so I would like to continue creating opportunities for people to learn about Monbetsu.''
