A report circulating on the Internet about an attack by three migrants on a German in Bautzen at the end of January is, according to the police, fictitious. In the course of investigations into dangerous bodily harm, the police announced on Tuesday that this “turned out to be a false report”. A knife is said to have played a role in the altercation on the night of January 26th to 27th.

It was “curious” that the supposedly injured person with a cut spoke up on Instagram but did not inform the police. "His post was distributed on other platforms and led to a lot of contributions on the Internet," it said. The motive of the identified author is unclear. The 22-year-old from Bautzen is now being investigated for faking a crime.

"The Internet is not a legal vacuum," warned the police and called for caution when evaluating and distributing posts. Such allegations could have criminal consequences.
