A 52-year-old from Saarland is said to have sent emails with offensive content to Jewish communities and institutions in several federal states. The police are currently aware of emails sent to recipients in Bavaria, Hesse and Saarland, said a spokesman. Investigators examined the criminal offenses of insult and sedition.

According to a police statement, the police tracked down the man after the liberal Jewish community in Bamberg filed a complaint following an email in November 2023. The suspect expressed his “disrespect or lack of respect for the community” in the email with offensive content. IT specialists from the criminal police tracked down the 52-year-old.

At the request of the Bamberg public prosecutor's office, the man's apartment in Saarbrücken was searched. Evidence was secured.

The man is suspected of having distributed his “angry speeches” via email to Jewish communities and institutions across the entire country, according to investigators. More affected people have recently reported to the police, the spokesman said. A connection with the allegations against the man is being examined.
