It only took minutes for the first reactions to come: Politicians all over the world expressed dismay after the announcement that Charles had cancer and sent numerous well-wishes to the monarch.

"I have no doubt that he will soon be back to full strength and I know that the whole country wishes him all the best," the head of government said. Opposition leader Keir Starmer expressed well wishes on behalf of the Labor Party. »We look forward to seeing him back in full health soon.«

Sunak's predecessor also expressed wishes for his recovery. “The whole country will be rooting for the king today,” wrote former Prime Minister Boris Johnson on X, formerly known as Twitter. »We wish Charles III. A full and speedy recovery." Johnson's successor Liz Truss wrote that Charles "will be in our thoughts and prayers. God save the king!”

US President Joe Biden said on the sidelines of a visit to Las Vegas that he was "concerned" and would call the monarch later. A State Department spokesman in Washington had previously said that members of the US government were with Charles in his thoughts. "This is incredibly sad news."
