The National Police Agency has decided to significantly increase the amount of the Crime Victim Benefit, which is paid to the families of crime victims. In cases where the victim is a child or has a low income, the amount provided has so far been kept low, but in these cases we will expand support for the victim and their bereaved family.

Crime Victim Benefits, which are paid to the bereaved families of victims of murder cases and those who remain seriously disabled as a result of the crime, are based on the victim's age and income at the time of the crime. Because the amount of benefits is fixed, the amount that children and people with low incomes receive has been kept low until now.

On the 5th, at a meeting of experts held by the National Police Agency since August last year, a draft outline of the system review was presented.

The basic proposal would add benefits uniformly to spouses, parents, and children among the survivors of those who died in the incident, and then reduce the minimum amount of benefits in cases where children or people with low incomes died. The plan is to raise the amount of the allowance to at least 10 million yen.

The government also plans to increase the amount of benefits that will be paid to children and people with low incomes in cases where they are seriously injured in an incident.

The National Police Agency is moving forward with adjustments to revise related laws and regulations, with the aim of implementing the law early in the new fiscal year.
