Around eight months after his accession to the throne, King Charles III. crowned on May 6, 2023 at Westminster Abbey. More than 2,300 guests were present when the Archbishop of Canterbury placed the Edwardian crown on the head of the new monarch. After 70 years of “God Save the Queen,” the British now had to get used to “God Save the King.”

Charles was well advised to remain largely silent about this affair: He emphasized that Harry and his wife Meghan would always be part of the family - and otherwise kept an elegant distance. In the hospital where King Charles III. was treated, Kate had an operation at the beginning of the year - the royal family did not provide any further information about the reason for the procedure at the time.
