Five people were injured in a traffic accident involving an ambulance near Brockel in Lower Saxony. Two of them suffered serious injuries, including a 92-year-old patient who was to be transported by ambulance, the police announced on Monday.

The accident occurred when a 22-year-old driver wanted to turn left onto federal highway 71 in her car on Sunday. It was said that she overlooked the ambulance that had the right of way coming from the left. Despite attempts to evade, the ambulance collided with the car, rolled over several times and came to a stop in the ditch.

The 92-year-old patient and a 25-year-old paramedic were reportedly trapped and had to be freed by rescue workers. They were both taken to hospital with serious injuries. The person who caused the accident, her passenger and the driver of the ambulance were slightly injured. The police estimated the property damage at more than 100,000 euros.
